This piece has a laborious feel, appropriate for its title. The main intervals used are thirds and sixths, which slowly plod along as two-note slurs. Students should be attentive to voicing so that the melodic line does not sound overly heavy. Though the dynamic markings are subtle, they are important for phrasing.
