Lively and cheerful, “Awakening” is full of opportunities to be exceedingly musical. For example, the accompaniment consists of flowing eighth notes, which should be shaped along with the melody. The melodic line is completely in the right hand and often has to come out above a thick texture. Rubato and smooth articulation are crucial elements for giving a strong performance of the piece.
