“Rocking Horse” has a magical, unsettled feel, perhaps due to the rolling accompaniment and absurd rhythmic patterns. Establishing a steady left hand accompaniment, which consists of broken chords, is imperative for keeping a strong pulse. The right hand rarely offers stability. Ties, grace notes, accents, and varied rhythms give the melody its charm. Students will need agile fingers and good fingering in order to master this piece.
