In many ways “Solemn Occasion” sounds a bit like a hymn. The harmonic structure, with simple chord progressions and clear cadences, is quite easy to analyze as well as to listen to. Since the right hand has a lot of thirds and fourths, one must be careful to voice the melody well. A slow tempo and gentle rubato add to the solemnness of the peace.
