Bold and vibrant, “Little Study” is fun for performers and audiences alike. Bartók creates his own unique five-finger patterns, somewhat similar to those found in pentachord studies. The piece is sequential, making it easy to memorize. Passages of parallel motion are replaced with contrary motion, exposing students to a variety of coordination challenges. Other components of the piece include playing legato, moving hand positions, changing meters, and playing with clarity.
