This invention is a good introduction to the world of two-part counterpoint. By being proficient at polyphony, students increase the amount of repertoire from which they can choose. Good fingering is essential for navigating this invention. An extensive use of accidentals and a lack of a tonal center make this piece especially challenging to memorize. Students should be mindful of the subtle dynamic variations.
