Students will be transported to the popular city of Barcelona while playing this work. The left hand has a typical barcarolle accompaniment pattern, imitating the strokes of a Venetian gondolier. Keeping the accompaniment pattern legato can be challenging for young pianists, especially those will small hands. Bringing out the melodic line is another difficulty. The melody should have long lines as well as a gentle sense of rubato. Occasional passages of triplets add a technical challenge to this work. The passage of rolled chords should be expressive.
