This piece has many musical aspects reminiscent of Spanish music. David Karp uses a harmonic progression typical of Spanish pieces. The left hand has a lilting pattern, creating a dance-like feeling. The melodic line is expressive and is suitable for an evening serenade in a lovely garden. A bold middle section with time signatures fluctuating between 3/4 and 2/4 adds another dramatic quality to the piece. Students should count carefully and be confident about the pulse. Pedaling should be used consistently throughout. A vibrant cadenza in the last measures ends the piece with a flourish.
