“Yearning” is to be played “with deep feeling,” according to Pearce. Embracing a heartfelt mood is easy in this piece and comes naturally because of the bold style of composition. Numerous open fifths and fourths permeate this work. The tempo should move well but remain stately. Dynamics also play an important role. The rise and fall of the melodic line corresponds with the dynamic inflections.
