This somber piece pays homage to Beethoven’s famous Moonlight Sonata. Flowing eighth notes in the right hand provide harmonies as well as a grim atmosphere. These broken chords should be steady with a lot of clarity. Although the overall dynamic level is subdued, one should voice the whole notes in the left hand. Creating a long, slow crescendo to the middle of the piece increases its climactic power.
