Expressivity is the key for giving a powerful performance of this waltz. The dance-like character is a lost a bit due to the slow, tender tempo. Specific, slightly unusual pedaling as well as some grace notes may be unfamiliar to young pianists. The sensitive dynamic markings give the piece a warm, cozy feeling. Students should be aware of the effect that changes in register can have on the character.
