In this piece, surprises come in the form of sudden sforzando triads. As noted in the piece, maintaining a steady tempo is important for fully experiencing the dramatic moments. Sections of triads and octaves alternate with passages of sixteenth notes. Dynamics and articulation play a large role in creating excitement.
