The simple oom-pa-pa left-hand accompaniment of this waltz stays constant throughout, leaving room for exploration in the right hand melody, including a modulation to the dominant. Various ornaments, triplets, and quintuplets (which may be new for students) decorate the melody, which extends at one point into an 8va upper register. Such exploration invites the student to explore the rubato so characteristic of Chopin’s work.
