Henry Purcell, A Farewell, The Queen's Dolour

Henry Purcell

Henry Purcell

This regal piece is great for improving one’s articulation and counting skills. Keeping a steady pulse can be challenging because of the frequent upbeats and the thin texture. Playing with the metronome and counting out loud are two helpful practice techniques for this piece. The articulation also needs special attention. Students should make sure that each phrase is as long as possible.
