The dotted rhythms, ornaments and occasional open harmonies give a vaguely Irish sound to this charming dance. Technical challenges include holding the first note of each beat in the left hand, coordinating the pedal with the hands and finding the rhythmic placement of the ornaments and dotted figures. Despite the held notes in the left hand, help from the pedal makes this piece accessible to students with smaller hands. The finger-pedal technique necessary for this piece will help prepare students for similar challenges in larger classical period works.
