Several aspects of this piece make it appropriate for students who are transitioning into level C. First, the predominance of quarter notes makes it a suitable choice for students who are not yet ready for fast passagework. Second, the frequent shifts can help students to transition into music that extends beyond basic positions, while making the piece accessible to students with small hands. Finally, the four-bar phrases and the tonal and dynamic shifts at the section changes prepare students for common aspects of form in dance and sonatina movements. Use of the melodic minor scale may also open avenues for discussion about the different forms of the minor scale, if they have not yet been addressed at this point.
