This barcarolle requires a sensitive pianist to properly bring out its musicality. In 6/8 time, the piece has a lilting feel, highlighted by flowing eighth notes and dotted rhythms. Though the left hand is often fixed on dotted half notes, a few opportunities to bring out moving notes arise. Keeping the thirds in the right hand smooth and well-voiced is a good challenge for advancing pianists. Bringing out the subtleness of the dynamics adds a sense of maturity to one’s playing.
