This piece lives up to its “lively, with humor” marking with multiple references to familiar tunes. Students will have fun with offbeats, chromatic melody lines, and oom-pa accompaniment. The bareness of melody and accompaniment without the pedal will force careful attention to articulation and phrasing. Teachers should be aware of the cut time meter and be sure their students understand the D.S. al Coda marking.
