Keveren effectively captures a nervous mood in this piece. Sudden, dramatic rests give the piece a skittish feel. Surprising dynamic changes also add to the atmosphere. Additionally, students should pay close attention to the articulation markings, especially when combined with accents. Playing the fortissimo section sharply will help to create the “agitated” character. Students should also be aware of the pianissimo in the final measure and may want to use the una corda pedal here.
