This piece is fantastic for students who have a wide range of technical skills readily available. The challenges come primarily from the right hand since the left hand simply repeats a measure-long pattern over and over. The right hand, however, has rapid legato scale passages as well as descending staccato figurations. Oddly placed accents add to the difficulty and also to the quirkiness of the piece. Students may enjoy the clownish sections of descending major seconds. Traditional harmonies are rare in this piece, making it a good introduction to other atonal works.
