As the title implies, Regret evokes emotions of unfulfilled dreams and desires. The left hand has a constant pattern of solid fifths, which allows the melody to take precedence. The right hand has a mixture of short fragments, implying thoughtfulness, and of longer cascading figurations. Rubato is quite effective in this piece, increasing the sense of pausing to regret the past. A lovely right hand passage concludes this wistful piece.
