Robert Volkmann

This piece flows in a story-like style. Short phrases combine to create longer melodies. Students should be careful to observe the numerous rests, using them to give the music a relaxed quality. The numerous rhythms can be challenging and include dotted and sixteenth notes. Dynamic markings are quite detailed and need to be whole-heartedly executed in order to capture the dramatic character of the piece.
