This prelude introduces the use of the una corda pedal and also a basic use of the damper pedal. Since the pedaling is quite simple, one can focus on other aspects. Shaping the melody as well as creating a gentle, flowing accompaniment help set a peaceful mood. Good voicing is also necessary so that the right hand comes through clearly. Students may want to also practice this piece without the pedal to make sure that they are following the articulation markings. Numerous accents, staccatos markings, and tenuto signs are used in combination with the damper pedal. This is a good piece for practicing a variety of articulations.
