Creating a restful atmosphere takes precedence in this prelude. Pedaling smoothly and forming long phrases add to the serenity. A long crescendo midway through adds a dramatic quality and variety in dynamics. Both hands are quite straightforward but attention should be paid to tone quality. Even though the dynamic marking is piano, students should avoid having a weak sound. They should also make sure to use good fingering, especially when moving to new hand positions.
