Ted Cooper, Orinoco
This is a piece full of exciting contrasts. Different sections have their own particular dynamic, from mezzo forte to forte. But the articulation has the most impressive distinctiveness. The hands alternate with playing staccato and legato, and both articulations are often used simultaneously. The coordination of having legato in the left hand and staccato in the right hand, for example, proves to be challenging for many young pianists. Practicing the hands alone will help them master this charming piece.
